Renowned Nigerian singers Peter and Paul Okoye, a.k.a P Square, and Uganda’s music heavyweight Dr. Jose Chameleon, on Friday, staged great performances in Kigali, as part of the warmup events ahead of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) Inkontanyi.
The concert, attended by the country’s First Family, took place at Amahoro Stadium in Remera, attracted tens of thousands. The party that was organised by the RPF Party was free of charge.
The entertainment started with local musicians playing the role of curtain raisers. At around 9p.m, Knowless and Jay Polly threw the crowd in the right mood, with some their latest tracks.
Shortly after, former Uganda’s Blu*3 member, Lillian Mbabazi, added flavour and heat to the show. She sang hits like Vitamin, Sanyu Lyange, Mr. DJ, among others.
At around 9:30p.m, the First Family, arrived at the fully-packed stadium. Intore Masamba then performed the FPR Umuryango W’Abanyarwanda song, which kicked off the second phase of the party.
Then came KFM’s Anita and Tino who didn’t disappoint either, with their short, simple but unique performance, before inviting to the stage, the Nigerian singing twins.
Impeccably dressed, the Chop My Money stars started their performance with Temptation, before belting out another ten songs. Among them were African Queen, Do Me, Show Me Your Soul and I love you.
Their performance left the audience with no option but to dance away in excitement. P Square’s unique dancing technique contributed a lot to their performance.
Next on stage was Chameleon, who didn’t hesitate to show Rwandans exactly how it is done.
Chameleon mixed old and new songs, reminding the audience of classics like Dorotia, Beeyi kali, Kipepewo, Shidazadunia, Maama Mia and 2011’s monster hit ValuValu. The concert came to an end at around 1:30a.m.
